Whew. Almost didn’t get this page up in time. My area was hit by a freak April ice storm, and I lost electricity for four days. Spent one night in my cold, dark house and then moved into a hotel. The power finally came up on Friday, which gave me enough time to finish this page off.

No buffer left, though. I’m working without a net for a while.

Anyway — I’m back! Let’s see what’s happening…oh, my. Joey doesn’t make friends well.

One more page in the forest canopy, then we’re back to Jacob. I’m sure he’ll have a reaction to something or another. Stay tuned.

Okay, okay, I know. You all probably want to kill me for making a diversion like this in the middle of a tense, moody scene. In my defense, this is the first time in my ten years of drawing webcomics that April Fool’s has fallen on an update day.

It’s really bad timing in the story, but I had planned for this a while ago, and…well, a moment of humor is never a bad thing. We’re back to the jungle next week, folks!

This short run of pages (like 3 more) is going to read better continuously, in the finished book or in the archive. I don’t think the pacing is right for a once-weekly update. That’s a struggle I deal with constantly — making pages that work on the slow update pace, or pages that work well in a continuous reading. It’s hard to do both at once.

Don’t worry, though. I’m sure Joey will do something every week to get your attention. Oh, look, he’s picking up Jacob’s mail, isn’t that thoughtful…
