Dividing lines are there for people who are not on the edge.

Caera connects, she’s got him in a hold, she’s…ah, shucks, she’s down…

Wait. She lived? That’s never happened before.

Before anyone asks, the autoinjector with the neurotoxin antidote was introduced back in page 83.

I should be back from vacation this week, and we should be back to shaded comics with the next page. Thanks for your patience, folks! Stay tuned, Jacob and crew aren’t out of Dakar yet…

  1. Moxie Man says:

Good thing she had the injector in hand as she landed on Doe. Else, you’d need yet another antagonist. 🙂

  2. мaгтэи says:

The delayed effect was realistic. I didn’t immediately get that it had poked her in panel 4.

  3. Skur says:

Oh, well. That would have been a moving death. Very creepy facial expression.
I find it weird that Jacob hasn’t got any weapon to inflict a mechanical kill, such as a sword or pistol, for coups de grâce. Isn’t he against cruelty?

  4. Oh, good. Caera lives to try another day, at which time she shall be a little more careful. She’ll have another opportunity in which to learn better, but she won’t quit trying.

I’m with the group who wants her to join up with Jacob and add to the mayhem directed toward his enemies. She has the ideal one-track mind to come over to his side, once she gets hit with the clue-bat a few more times.

  5. Remus Shepherd says:

At this time Jacob is not against cruelty, he’s only against inefficient killing. 🙂

I think you’ll all be surprised by Caera. You’ll be seeing her again in the next chapter.

  6. Jago of the 7 knives says:

Hmmm…Jacob is getting more humane every time. I believe Jacob just saved Caera’s life by moving his left arm and thus making Caera’s left hand that was holding the anti-toxin vaccine inject itself into her left breast, thus saving her life…I am with the group that Caera would make a very interesting travel companion on “Jacob’s Quest”. This story is getting better and better. More power man!

  7. Skur says:

    Now my guess:
He, out of godspeed-fuel, tried to grab her hand and she, having seen what she saw, hit herself with the shot the moment he twitched.

Personally, I think Caera has to die.
She’s very dedicated to her course and an umpteenth generation expat in a secluded community.
Since people moving away from home without proper connection to their homeplace, and not getting integrated in new communities, tend to flee in clichés of their original cultures, she’s very likely to sacrifice herself for the course or kill herself after defeat.

Also: She simply has to die. Somebody (who is not an enemy grunt) is going to die, we all know it, and it’s not going to be somebody of the core trio this early in.

  8. Remus Shepherd says:

I’m sorry that the art wasn’t plain. Jacob moved his arm to push Caera’s sword down, so she wouldn’t cut his throat when he moved to shoot her. Don’t read *too* much into it. Caera saved herself with the injector. Maybe I’ll have to make it plainer when I complete this page.

As for Caera’s future…you’re just going to have to wait and see. If I say anything else it would be too spoilery. 🙂

  9. DaveP. says:

Well. That went as well as could be expected.

  10. She survive?
These disconnected nerve ends, they found a way to reconnect them?
Stroke victims do survive, but MILD strokes, where re-connections are done over time…but present day organo-phosphate’s victims…
