Chapter 16 Cover

New chapter!  Bit of a battle coming up!  And even more exciting news…

Genocide Man chapter books are now for sale on Comixology!  Chapter #1 can be found here, and can be read on PCs or electronic tablets.  That chapter book has higher resolution images than what you’ll find here on the website, and it contains a smidgen of extras — some tech discussion. never-before-seen guest art, and full-color covers by Michael Yakutis!

The subsequent chapters should be available soon.  I submitted chapter one in February (and the wait has been driving me mad), but Comixology promises that further chapters in a series will come out faster.

I know that some of you long-time readers want a compiled, paper edition of the comic.  I’m working on that, and these electronic chapbooks are the first step toward it.  Hopefully that’ll happen in 2016.  And meanwhile, with the chapbooks for sale I’m launching a new ad campaign that should bring in some fresh readers.  (Hi everybody!  Welcome to the murder-webcomic capital of the internet!)

For now, we’ve got this craziness with Jacob, Caera, and the Jian Shi to watch.  Sit back, watch out for zombies, and enjoy the story!

Discussion (11)¬

  1. Mike says:

Something tells me the old adage, “never bring a knife (sword) to a gunfight” won’t hold as true here. Though I have faith in Jacob.

  2. ben says:

The artist still needs to work hard on their faces. It isn’t a problem with the zombies because we expect them to be lopsided, but when the hot non-zombie girl has her face all smushed up and distorted it becomes a problem.

  3. Elihias says:

@ben: And I suppose you want her perfectly manicured and in a chain-mail bikini too, instead of grimacing with effort as she tries to get out of the way of several tons of tank? Oh, and also try not to provide an easy target for Jacob at the same time…

    Eli…

  4. soupgeorge says:

@ben I have to agree with you; we have had some very odd faces lately. Caera’s face is ok here but her eyes should be more obviously open.

  5. Pat Scaramuzza says:

It’s an action chapter, so I’m okay with a little sloppiness. 🙂

  6. Anonymous Coward says:

Yeah, I have to say that face is, well… ass. More than anything else, it makes me think of US anti-Japanese propaganda during WW2. I don’t remember Caera’s specific ethnicity, but the point is, she looks like she’s been drawn as a slant-eyed gook. I’m sure that wasn’t your intention, or the artist’s, but that’s what it says to me. Additionally, what in the Nine Hells is her right leg doing, pushing off of that apparently levitating piece of what I assume is armour plating from the tank? In before “maglev standoff armour”, that don’t play. Add to which it looks more like an SPG than a tank, and where are all the AFV doodads? What’s up with that smooth hull? Is it a stealth tank? Lastly, why in the Nine Hells is Jacob imitating Neo from The Matrix? And why is detail so variable? His gun forearm looks reasonably fleshed (ha) out, but the gun itself looks like something a kid drew.

Not that I’m complaining. Thou shalt not look a free webcomic in the mouth 😉

  7. Pat Scaramuzza says:

Just to remind you, Caera is Chinese. Some Chinese refugees settled in other countries after the Jian Shi pandemic drove them out of their homeland.

*I’m* happy with Kasey’s art. Maybe because I’ve seen all the pages in this chapter, so I know the average quality is good. And it’s lightyears above my own art, which is how the comic started.

Patience, patience. You won’t be disappointed. How can you be? It’s Caera vs. Jacob vs. a zombie tank. Drawing that in stick figures would still be cool. 🙂

  8. Kasey Quevedo says:

Ah, I love the internet! Glad you liked the cover Ben! And the eyes are a stylization thing when that part of the image is too small to put a lot of detail especially when squinting. I’ve done it with Zoe too, so I would like to think to not read too much into it. And full disclosure. TOTALLY made up the tank. Because the future. It was my chance to have fun with it. Keep the positive vibes flowing folks!

  9. Ming the Merciless says:

Complaints, complaints, complaints…As Hillzilla said:”What difference does it make”???
Carry on, we cant wait for what comes next!

  10. Anonymous Coward says:

Ming can’t read… “I’m not complaining.” Don’t make fun of me. Honestly, I expect to be taken seriously when the artists think taking me seriously will help them; and not, when they don’t. This isn’t my comic. But I am curious (hence all the question marks) and opinionated (hence all the opinions). I appreciate the explanation about the eyes and in all fairness people tend to make funny faces when they’re concentrating hard on something, like figure skaters and tennis players; combat is no different. Also appreciate the frankness about the tank. (“Thanks for the tank, HE never gets me ANYTHING.” “Oh, I know what the ladies like…”)

Really, I am a terrible person with inconsistent usernaming because I never remember the darn thing, but Pat (and possibly Kasey) can finger me (not that way) because I have made sure to use the same email address consistently. This is the first time, I’m pretty sure, that I’ve passed through vague questions into concrete opinions that could be construed as negative.

Good artists balance listening to the fanbase with knowing when the fanbase is wrong and should be ignored. I’m happy either way, because nothing I mentioned is any massive earthshattering error or beef that is going to make me stop reading forever. I’m just stringing words together.

Kasey, as an aside, far be it from me to tell you what to do, but when you have discharged your obligations with Pat, you might consider getting ahold of Scott Westerfeld and proposing graphic novels of his Uglies quadrilogy. And/or Wasserman regarding her Cold Awakening trilogy.

  11. Pat Scaramuzza says:

Just as a note, I don’t do much moderation here, but I can step in if things get heated. I don’t think they’re at that level yet, but let’s not get there.

Constructive advice is always appreciated — for both writer and artist. As for my stance, I’ve been giving Kasey very difficult pages to draw, and remember that he stepped in when my previous artist abruptly left for bigger and better things. So I’m very happy with how Kasey is working out. If you readers think the art needs more attention then maybe I’ll reduce Kasey’s workload and we’ll spend more time on the art together.
