Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

Chapter 15, Page 5

Why is Caera slicing at Jacob while trying to interrogate him at the same time?  Well, she’s always been curious about how she stacks up against others in a fight.  And if it ends up that she *has* to fight Jacob, she may as well get a sense of how good he is by taking a few pokes here and there.  Since you all mentioned it, I think I’ll put in some dialogue to that effect later.

↓ Transcript
Caera: Did Lola Lamb create the Jian Shi?
Jacob: Don't know. Makes sense.
Caera: Did she cause the Guayaquil Pandemic?
Jacob: Who told you that?
Caera: Kevin Kidd. Just before Lola gunned him down.
Jacob: Really. Things back at the project are worse than I thought.
Caera: Yes -- they are!

  1. devurandom says:

That dude in topmost left is holding his gun reeealy weirdly.
    Intentional?

  2. Pat Scaramuzza says:

Yes, the Jian Shi are a bit clumsy. Compare this picture of them.

  3. SpectralTime says:

Seriously, though, while I may moan and complain about the shapeshifting sword, the action so far has been really nice, and I can’t complain.

  4. R.S. Laurent says:

Single question, are their weapons actually “killing” the Jian Shi or just debilitating them?
I’d think Super Soldiers would have a much higher level of resilency………………..

  5. Pat Scaramuzza says:

Sarin neurotoxin is pretty deadly. If they’re not completely immune, it’s likely they’re going to die from it. Caera is cutting chunks out of them and that may or may not kill them on top of the neurotoxin. Remember, the Jian Shi are threats because of their numbers and their infectiousness.

  6. Moxie Man says:

All we need is for Ceara to slice through a tomato and we’d have a futuristic Ginsu (Knife) Blade commercial.

“It slices! It dices! Watch as she cuts through an army of Jian Shi! And look! It’ll still slice through a tomato…”

Yeah, in a weird mood tonight, but the old Ginsu commercials suddenly hit my head looking at this page. 🙂

  7. Jordan says:

The Jian Shi are a super soldier program altered by Lola, but so far outside of being more tolerant of pain, they don’t appear to be too super.

  8. re: devurandom

I will grant the Jian Shi are a bit clumsy, but I’ll also predict the fellow in the upper left would get off only two shots before he had no hands left to hold the pistol in any manner. The ejector mechanism packs a real punch when it throws out an empty shell.

Unless, of course, we’re talking about a new type of caseless cartridge, in which case – go for it.

  9. Ming the Merciless says:

I sprayed Naled in Florida for mosquitos…One drop on your wrist will give you cancer…One guy crashed and got some splashed on his face…He walked out of the plane wreck but dropped dead after a couple of steps…The organo-phosphates are supposed to disconnect the mosquitoes’ nerve ends(and yours too!)Naled break down after a few seconds outside the spray but the flying at a hundred feet in pitch dark is more hazardous, in my opinion…

  10. -skimmer- says:

You know, I still have real problem seeing the jiang shi as a threat when they keep holding their guns like that.
