The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact, non-Westerners never do.

Chapter 17, Page 25

Yep, most of you saw it coming.  We’re getting to the end of the chapter (and getting near the end of the story!), so it’s about time for everything to go FUBAR for our heroes.  Bye, Zoey.  I promise that you will not be the last to fall.  🙂

  1. CorimKnight says:

Alright guys, time to place your bets. Who do you think is going to die next? I’m guessing that Kentaro is gonna bite it soon.

  2. Moxie Man says:

Congratulations, Zoey! You’ve won the 2110 Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award from Colby College. Hopefully, you’ve got a next of kin to accept it for you. (and hopefully comments accept simply html mark-up, or this will look ugly).

  3. Z00l00k says:

Anyone else but me that finds int interesting that they shot her first before taking on the dudes in the armored cars?

  4. Sonja says:

Oh, that’s a pity. Zoey was such an optimistic character, she would have been useful for the world after the war…

  5. SCAScot says:

First rule in a firefight – don’t be a target.

  6. Pat Scaramuzza says:

Z00l00k, we saw four genocide trainees on the previous page. You can assume some of them are shooting soldiers. 🙂

  7. WhiskeyFur says:

I’m thinking she was killed first to kill the feed to the entire world and/or to get her out of their comms. You can’t fight an enemy if they know all of your plans, and you can’t come out of smelling like roses if the whole world saw you go nuts on everyone in sight.

  8. The Sidhekin says:

Genocide project has no interest in smelling like roses. Overkill is their policy, and they want the world to know.

But yeah, removing the hacker is just good sense.

(Hmm. Considering she worked with faux-Fumiaki … what are the odds she’s got a faux-Zoey uploaded to the undernet? Wrong genre? Well …)

  9. chukg says:

    Damn.

  10. SteelRaven says:

Looks like you just got a promotion, Roger. Try not to make the same mistake as your predecessor.

  11. Cavelobster says:

A single human life is to one of these Genocide men as an ant is to an exterminator. This is why I like Roger – he knows this.

  12. vingfel says:

    Typical journalist.
Convince that “they” are holy, untuchable and above everything.
And then thyn cry like children when reality come to them.

  13. SteelRaven says:

Their have been enough dead journalist to prove otherwise. Traditional, journalist have been safe passage in conflicts because many see them as a neural party. Journalist are only seemed to be targeted when they are mistaken to be a threat or the goal is simply terror. This seems to be the later.

  14. Rahka says:

Genocide men rookies gonna give it to ya.

  15. Mark Linimon says:

Yeah … I kinda thought that.
