Chapter 18, Page 14

“Is this going to be a stand up fight, sir, or just another bug hunt?”  Well, maybe a little of both…

Kentaro: Girii sent you down here so I could kill you. We thought up the plan together.
Jacob: Popular tactic these days. Nice of you to tell me.
Kentaro: I'm hoping you'll turn around and leave. This is a bad time...I'm kind of busy.
Jacob: You being 'busy' is why I'm here. The drone fleet makes you a threat to the entire world, Kentaro. I've got to shut you down.
Kentaro: Very well. At least the feeling is mutual.

  1. CapnCoconuts says:

Given that Jacob once described these drones as “nasty”, this could prove to be a difficult fight. And that’s assuming he still has plot armor and isn’t going to die here are part of the story.

  2. CapnCoconuts says:

Er, AS part of the story. Curse you, typos.

  3. Jordan says:

Kentaro, you should have just planted some mines or something. A stand up fight against Jacob is suicide

  4. ben says:

We’ve seen a single automated gun take out a person with genocide man-level upgrades. hundreds of them run by a smarter than human AI should be able to take out even a real genocide man. Plus the AI should have a better than human plan, but since it’s plan is actually written by a human artist, we’ll only get human level planning.

  5. Pat Scaramuzza says:

Just a note: The plan’s writer shouldn’t factor into the equation, as the writer can see the future and allow the smarter character to think further ahead. 🙂

  6. Unmaker says:

    @ben
A gun specifically designed to take out a Genocide Man took out a non-field Genocide Man. It probably still would have taken out Jacob, too, but with more trouble I bet.

Other than that, Kentaro isn’t combat-optimized, unless he has been doing some self-directed upgrades, and Jacob is combat optimized and has a history of taking out rogue AI. The drones aren’t optimized to take out Genocide Men. The drones have been hell on wheels for other forces because they ID as friendly, so they can’t be fired on.

I do generally agree that it looks like a fight very much skewed against Jacob, so I don’t see how he will be getting out of this one. Unless… speaking of IFF, can the drones fire on Jacob without reprogramming.
