So the chapter’s name is ‘Three Journeys’, right? We’ll be following our main trio, with a few side trips to keep up with what’s happening to Caera. Now here’s our third substory — delving into the journal that the A.I. gave to Roger. It’s a tale from the past, courtesy of the infamous Doctor Fumiaki.
Now that all three substories have been introduced, I’m going to stick with this one for a while before shifting to the others. I think the pacing will work out best that way. But let me know which thread you’re most interested in. All three contain big revelations in this chapter.
Journal: San Francisco, August 13, 2055 -- When I heard the news, I called my assistant Lynn and ran to the university...
Tatsu: My lab!
Lynn: My thesis work!
Both: Ruined!
Tatsu: I never should have collaborated with the Russian Pastukh A.I.. I never should have given it control of the lab automation. I was hoping it wouldn't go crazy, like the others...
Lynn: The creches! All the genetic microfabbers! All trashed -- but why?
Lynn: It's a baby?
Tatsu: It's an animal.
Lynn: Tatsu...it's an animal with opposable thumbs.
With my endlessly limited Japanese skills I’d conclude that it either says “It’s her, it seems” or “It seems, it/she is your girlfriend”.
Or maybe: “It’s her, isn’t it?”
The text on the wall will be explained in the next page. But keep in mind that your Japanese may be better than mine. 🙂
well, the は in the first part is unnecessary, and since です and だ are versions of each other, the entire thing is redundant in a way that doesn’t work in Japanese.
それは女の子だね! <– It's a girl!
Little Dahnei seems to be complaining about the heat, though.
I just want to point out that the next page has been finished for weeks. So what shows up next Monday was not influenced by what Gaijin just wrote. 🙂
