I asked the 7-year-old the other night if she was afraid of ‘monsters’ when she shied away from a dark room. She looked at me like I was crazy — monsters are for losers who don’t need to fear war, abductions and explosions.

Chapter 12, Page 5

This little interlude with Lola is going to be short, but I think it’s important to see her and Jacob interacting.  History is a deep and sticky web, and these two shared — and caused — a lot of it.

Lola: So you know about Guayaquil. Do you expect me to feel remorse? We saved the world. Some innocents died. I don't regret that. Neither should you. All this can be fixed, Jacob. Come back with me.
Jacob: No. You've erased so many of my memories...I'm not sure who I am anymore.
Lola: That was to protect you.
Jacob: Maybe. But it left nothing but the soldier, robotically following orders. I need to prove that I'm more than that.
Lola: What will you do?

Yay! I could watch them talk for some pages more. 🙂
    What will Jacob answer…?

  2. darius404 says:

I hate her. I really, REALLY don’t like excuses for poor behavior.

  3. chukg says:

Jacob has some good lines here, a little look inside his head when we don’t get much of that.
