The young have aspirations that never come to pass, the old have reminiscences of what never happened. It’s only the middle-aged who are really conscious of their limitations — that is why one should be so patient with them.

Chapter 20, Page 17

I think I’ve mentioned before, but I always like seeing Jacob in dress clothes.  To my mind he’s more of an elderly James Bond than a kickass grandpa.

Then again, you don’t see many koala girls in James Bond flicks.  Maybe they should try some.

Jacob: Hmph. I thought that I was well-dressed.
Roger: Hey, Jacob! I heard you might be here.
Jacob: Of course. I'm the most tracked man on the planet. Everywhere I go, I've got at least five tails. When I bought this suit, I'm pretty sure the tailor was packing heat.
Roger: You're paranoid.
Jacob: You're not? We've both earned it. Feels kind of silly, though...

  1. Jago 7 knives says:

Just five tails??? If I was the head of the Secret Service (or whatever that is left of it in Jacob’s timeline) I would allot not less than a dozen operatives on foot, 8 teams in different cars, 12 operatives on motorcycles, a dedicated tech team and at least one AUV to cover Jacob 24/7 wherever he goes.

  2. Dwwolf says:

    Those glasses….

What Can You Do With A General?
When the war was over, why, there were jobs galore
For the G.I. Josephs who were in the war
But for generals things were not so grand
And it’s not so hard to understand

What can you do with a general
When he stops being a general?

    • Aldin says:

You let him open up a store in a small town that sells just about everything from groceries to nuts & bolts. 🙂

  4. Jordan says:

Honestly, five tails on a man like Jacob seems a bit low.

    • SteelRaven says:

5 at the very least, which means he is being watched by multiple agencies at all times. The fact his tailor had a side arm probably means that suit is wired, Jacob is just beyond the point of caring.

      • Jay says:

The “I know, and you know that I know” setup sounds a whole lot less stressful for everyone compared to the alternatives – assuming Jacob isn’t planning on upending the world *again*, he’s earned a bit of relaxation (even if he hasn’t earned any privacy…)

  5. Foxhack says:

You see Jacob as an older James Bond.

Me? I just see the Tall Man from Phantasm. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY!
