Chapter 6, Page 16

Some of you were wondering if there were any true good guys or bad guys in this story. Well, here’s Kevin. Kevin is a bad guy. You’re welcome.

↓ Transcript
Lola: She's tiny, Kevin.
Kevin: So are you.
Lola: I was never a combat specialist. Does she have the Guayaquil complex?
Kevin. Yes. But she also has an obsessive personality...which I believe I can chemically tweak into true aggression. Somewhere between the pacifist and the psychopath, I think I can make what we need.
Lola: Your report said that Jacob's blood was on her sword. We can't let anyone study that sample.
Kevin: Already taken care of. Before I left, I released a limited generation Ebola. Everyone in that hospital should be dead in a few days.
Lola: That -- that was unnecessary, Kevin.
Kevin: Perhaps, but as you said... I don't really have to ask permission any more.

  1. soupygeorge says:

Bad man with a bad haircut – has Kevin regrown his hair? – I notice in the flashback Jacob’s hair was the same as now, and Kevin was balding.

Also, will we find out what a Guayaquil complex is?

  2. Remus Shepherd says:

Glad you noticed that! Yes, Kevin has a toupee.

By the end of book 1 (that’s the end of chapter 8), there should be no more unanswered questions other than ‘what happens next?’. I’ll give you a hint on Guayaquil, though — it’s a city in South America that’s mentioned in the timeline, in the year 2066.

  3. Lucifus says:

Well we have a true “word of god” bad guy. Can’t wait to see other reasons why.

  4. Gaijin says:

“Guayaquil Complex”… At least we have an answer as to whether or not the rest of the Project is aware of the changes to the human genome. Bigger question is, did the “last of the great plagues” induce a genetic complex by accident, or was that the intent from the start, and the 1.3 billion death toll an inconvenient side effect?
